About Artist and Work Process:
Rida’s work draws attention to issue of restoration of cultural architectural heritage and urban development. She chooses buildings in downtown Lahore to help viewers understand the transient nature of architecture and the facade of restoration. Once a building is “restored” it is not the same, and while it makes us feel we have protected our heritage it robs the building of its true character. She uses her work as means of protest against the injustices committed against the legacy of historical buildings in the name of urban development. She has carefully chosen the buildings in her paintings to highlight the heritage sites affected by this phenomenon in the contemporary times.
