Kanwal Tariq (b. 1990, Faisalabad, Pakistan) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work is based on performances and videos. Kanwal’s work centersaround the relationship between the organic body and physical materials. She explores the existing tension and pain between being and nothingness, movement and stillness, life and death, rawness and realness to understand the limitation of a body related to gestures and movements to allow to travel from one state to another by using natural and usual entities.
Kanwal pursued her post graduation in visual art from National College of Art, Lahore,2016 and Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction from Institute of Art and Design, GCUF, Faisalabad, 2013. Currently, she works as an assistant curator at Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, National College of Arts, Lahore.
Kanwal’s work has been shown in many exhibitions both locally and Internationally such as Iran, Germany, India and Pakistan. She exhibited her work at ”The 4th International Festival of Homar”, Iran(2020)- ”Room Of Thought”, India(2020)- ”The TROJAN DONKEY”, Karachi(2020)- ”We’ve Been Waiting For You” held for World Day against Death Penalty in collaboration with Justice Project Pakistan, Highlights Arts and House Ltd, Bari Studios, Lahore(2019)- ”Lahore Junction” VM Art Gallery, Karachi(2019)- ”Body becoming” ,Olomopolo, Lahore(2018)- ”Mix Tape (1)” Canvas Gallery Karachi(2018)- ”NordArt 2018” Germany(2018)- ”Premise of Promise” Canvas Gallery, Karachi(2017).Her video work has been part of the ”3rd CineMare Int’l Ocean Film Festival Kiel, Germany (2018) and performance work for the Karachi Biennale 2017. She has also represented Pakistan in Caravanserai Regional Festival, Kabul, Afghanistan in 2017 as well as part of House Artist Residency 2018, Lahore, Pakistan(2018).
