About the Artist:
Yaseen is an academically trained artist who worked as a truck mechanic before completing his Bachelors in Fine Arts from National College of Arts. Yaseen’s job at the truck workshop was to apply ‘Chamak Patti’ to decorate trucks. He makes his art personal by using the same Chamak Patti to weave out patterns on the canvas as his statement on the interdependence and connection of social and cultural diversity. Yaseen himself comes from a multi-ethnical Pakhtun and Sindhi heritage.
He has re-invented and re-contextualized the technique of Chamak Patti in his practice, which is otherwise only seen as a craft or design practice. In a way, his work immortalizes cultural heritage by using it in a completely modern and different social setting.
