About Artist and Work Process:
Abdul’s work symbolizes his Sindhi heritage in the colors and composition he chooses for his paintings. He uses the technique of mark-making to create simple strokes of weave-like patterns. He takes a contemporary view of the traditional motives of Sindhi textile and architecture. He uses small, steady strokes to create an optical illusion, which simultaneously gives the effect of control and balance.
His work carries strong aboriginal and nomadic influences. In a way, the simplicity of colors and patterns in his work represent the humbleness of tribal people and culture. His work immortalizes the elements of nomadic art in contemporary patterns.
