Yaseen is a visual artist currently based in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore, in 2019, where he was awarded a Distinction. From the very beginning, showcasing immense talent and an avid interest in art, he was driven to pursue a career in it. He has showcased his artworks in the Young Artist Exhibition in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. He has also taken part in a group show at the Zahoor Ul Akhlaq Gallery, Lahore, in 2016. Khan also participated in “Real and its Double” in 2018, held at the French Embassy, Islamabad, where he was awarded First Position and subsequently had the opportunity to travel to Paris.
From an early age, he worked as a mechanic and began decorating trucks with Chamak Patti—a reflective adhesive material traditionally used in Pakistani truck art. This medium became a foundational element in his creative journey, offering him a unique lens through which to study aesthetics and regional nuances often overlooked by the casual observer. Over the years, he trained under various Ustads (master craftsmen) and later refined his practice through formal education at the National College of Arts, Lahore.
His work—marked by abstract patterns, vivid colors, intricate lines, and symbolic objects—emerges from a deep respect for manual labor and traditional craftsmanship. His practice is a celebration of the hands-on skills that shaped him as an artist, mechanic, and craftsman, while also raising questions about the boundaries and hierarchies of art forms. Through the accessible and familiar language of Chamak Patti, Yaseen Khan creates work that remains rooted in the visual traditions and histories of Pakistan yet speaks to a contemporary artistic discourse.
