About Artist and Work Process:
Akram is a nationally and internationally celebrated artist. Born and schooled in Nushki, Balochistan. He later completed Bachelors in Fine Arts from National College of Arts, Lahore, and became part of founding faculty of The Department of Fine Arts, University of Balochistan. He received Pakistan’s President’s Pride of Performance Award 2004. Currently based in Quetta, he runs his studio and chairs The Institute of Fine Arts at University of Balochistan
His main mediums are sculptures and paint which he uses to express diverse themes, especially that of Human Rights. Akram’s PhD dissertation was on the traditional patterns of Baloch embroidery and handicrafts. His work is heavily inspired by traditional motifs of Balochistan and he has had significant influence on preservation of Balochi art by making invaluable contributions to the collection at Mohatta Palace Museum in Karachi.
