Gardens of Reflection: A Journey through Qinza Najm’s Imagination
Amidst the disharmony of urban life, where concrete jungles suffocate the spirit and solitude becomes a distant dream, gardens emerge as sanctuaries for the soul, summoning us with their lush embrace. In the words of the poet Rumi, ‘Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.’ Qinza Najm’s exhibition, ‘(In)accessible Gardens,’ displayed at ArtSoch gallery in Lahore in early March, tenderly echoed this sentiment, inviting viewers to navigate the delicate landscapes of their inner temples while imagining the tangible manifestations of these cherished retreats.

ArtSoch- A story in every stroke.
Artsoch Gallery on MM Alam in Lahore has a diverse collection of art and that the exhibitions are always changing. An art gallery opening is an exciting event that brings together artists, art lovers, and members of the community to celebrate creativity and expression. It is a chance for artists to showcase their work and for people to view and appreciate it. The opening usually involves an exhibition of the artist’s work, along with refreshments and a chance to meet and talk with the artist. It can be a great opportunity for people to learn more about different styles and techniques of art, as well as to connect with others who share their passion for creativity and expression.
Belonging And Becoming
Mariam Hanif Khan
Qinza Najm, an inter-disciplinary artist based between New York and Lahore, Pakistan presented her solo show titled, Meray Dil Meray Muasafir (My Heart is my Companion Passenger) – Tracing the Belongings on Wednesday 17 May, 2023.
Unlocking the intricacies of belonging
Using artistic means to create empathy and understanding between societies and cultures Qinza Najm, a NYC based Pakistani-American artist, has been exhibiting her artwork since over a decade now. I have had the privilege of knowing Qinza for an extensive period, during which she has consistently demonstrated qualities of determination, resilience, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Pakistan’s rich and diverse art scene reflects its cultural, religious, and political history. It encompasses various mediums and styles including painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, calligraphy, and several other experimental mediums. Pakistani artists have contributed to the art world generously, and despite facing challenges such as censorship and limited resources, they continue to create thought-provoking and inspiring works that capture the essence of their country’s culture and history.
Rewriting History, Reimagining The Female
Bodhisattvas may be represented as deities that can be considered equivalent to Buddha in knowledge. Interestingly some visual manifestations of these bodhisattvas have no gender at all while others such as in the Far East have fused with local traditions and folklore so that they resemble beautiful female divinities who are worshipped for their compassion, ability to sacrifice and grant children.
Tales Untold
Lahore: For art enthusiasts, collectors, artists and art critics, it was a pleasure to witness a brilliant group art show titled ‘Tales Untold’ by 15 visual artists at the Art Soch Gallery in Gulberg II, where 33 artworks, along with two installations are placed.
Arresting artwork
ArtSoch, in the heart of Gulberg, one of the city’s busiest commercial areas, promises to support emerging artists and breathe new life into the country’s art scene. While most of the walls were hung with more traditional work referencing local architecture and beautiful landscapes, one piece stood out, in large part because, for the first half of the launch, it was flipped over, facing the wall.
Two art shows open
A group show titled ‘Musings of a Deserted Mind’ opened at Ejaz Art Gallery and a solo exhibition by artist Samra Cheema titled ‘Transmuting Beings’ began at ArtSoch Gallery.
Long lost letters
There are several kinds of letters: open letters in newspapers, handwritten letters on loose sheets, letters composed and printed in a book, letters scrawled with blood on a piece of paper, letters inscribed on leather parchments, letters inked on scrolls, letters designed like some greeting card, letters sent on the back of picture postcards, email documents, and text messages.
Art Review: Vision Weavers by Mariam Hanif Khan
ArtSoch Contemporary is Lahore’s most recent addition, opening its doors on MM Alam Road, one of the busiest commercial districts in the area. Their inaugural exhibition titled “Vision Weavers”, has twenty-six artists who are engaged in teaching and curation as well as creating their own artworks.
Contemporary art in Pakistan
‘Vision Weavers’ was not an ordinary art exhibition. It was a collaboration of 26 different artists from all over Pakistan documenting the diversity of their art practice, mediums and multiplicity of views in modern Pakistan. As an art novice I have felt that strict constraints on freedom of expression have stagnated the scope of artwork found in local art galleries and city streets.
